MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) -- Aside from the current Tropical Storm Gordon in the Gulf of Mexico:
- Hurricane Florence is in the open Atlantic Ocean waters, moving generally to the west-northwest and far from any land mass. It is forecast to maintain a west-northwest path for a few days. Longer-range projections are split between a shift to a westward track and a curve to the north. There is ample time to monitor trends and determine what, if any, risks Florence would pose to the U.S. mainland.
- A newly emerging tropical wave in the Cape Verde region of the eastern Atlantic has an increasing chance to develop into a tropical depression within the next five days and it moves west-northwest.
- Also, some long-range forecast data suggest a couple more tropical disturbances entering the eastern Atlantic through early next week. There is also a modest wave of moisture near the southernmost Caribbean that may hold together as it travels west-northwest, possibly into the southwestern Gulf of Mexico early next week.
