MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) -- The tropical scene remains generally inactive, despite the presence of a lingering broad disturbance in the eastern Gulf, over the Florida peninsula, and extending a few hundred miles into the western Atlantic.  A mild amount of upper-level shear will likely prevent the development of a tropical depression from the current activity off the Florida west coast.  However, its moisture source will linger in the same area over the next several days, then perhaps shift slightly north.  This may increase the general rain coverage potential for the Big Bend region by late this week.

In the open Atlantic, a massively dry air mass remains in place over the southern latitudes of the north Atlantic, which will inhibit the formation of tropical systems within that region.
