TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- There is one area of interest in the tropics.
Just to the east of Nicaragua in the western Caribbean Sea is a large area of showers and thunderstorms. This disturbance is expected to move over the Yucatan Peninsula over the next several days, though little development is expected. As the disturbed weather moves into the southwest Gulf of Mexico, environmental conditions become more conducive to development. The National Hurricane Center has given this area of interest a 20% chance of formation in the next five days.
The rest of the Atlantic Basin remains quiet and free of tropical disturbances at this time.
