MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) -- Current areas of active tropical systems include:
- Tropical Storm Karl, roughly 500 miles east-northeast of the Leeward Islands, forecast to move northwest, then north, over the open Atlantic. Karl is leaving a zone of fast upper-level winds, which have held back its strengthening efforts, and expectations are for the storm to intensify into a hurricane, but remain safely far off the U.S eastern seaboard.
- Tropical Storm Lisa is in the Cape Verde region of the eastern Atlantic, and is expected to make a northwesterly turn over the open Atlantic. The zone of fast upper-level wind shear is projected to heavily impact the structure of Lisa, keeping the system in the tropical storm range for the foreseeable future.
The remnants of Tropical Storm Julia are keeping a wet scenario in place in the mid-Atlantic, but re-generation of this system into a tropical low is unlikely at this point.
