TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- There are three areas of interest in the tropics...one is Tropical Depression Emily, and the other two are tropical disturbances.
Tropical Depression Emily has winds near 35 mph and is moving northeast at 15 mph. This storm will continue moving in the northeastward direction away from land with very little strengthening, if any, expected
In the central Gulf of Mexico, there is a non-tropical area of low pressure about 250 miles south of Pensacola, Florida. According to the National Hurricane Center, this area of interest is not expected to have significant development due to stronger upper level winds and the proximity to dry air. It is for this reason that there is only a 10% chance of development in the next five days. This low pressure is forecast to move northeastward over the Big Bend late Wednesday night to early Thursday morning. What this means for us is that we may see some rain and slightly breezy conditions during that time frame, that's it.
Further away, we have a tropical disturbance that has a large area of clouds and disorganized shower activity. This area of interest is located several hundred miles southwest of the Cape Verde Islands and is moving westward at 10 to 15 mph. Because of the slow development expected, the National Hurricane Center has given disturbance a 20% chance of formation in the next five days.
