The tropical Atlantic basin has settled down after a period of tropical storm activity. There are a few waves of disturbed conditions ... off the Carolina coast with a cold front and the leftovers of Tropical Storm Karen ... a swirl of upper-level low pressure in the northern Atlantic ... patchy moisture extending north from the eastern Greater Antilles ... and the strongest disturbance in the eastern Atlantic near the Cape Verde Islands. This particular system has the best chance to achieve some development over the next couple of days, but all signs show this wave staying well out to sea and not becoming a threat to any major land mass.
