Chantal is currently moving WNW at about 29 mph. The storm has winds up to 65mph on the northern and eastern sides of the storm (this is because the forward movement of the storm). This storm could strengthen slightly before crossing Hispaniola...but then will weaken due to the mountainous terrain (~7,000 ft). After crossing Hispaniola this storm is expected to weaken and slow down as it turns NW and travels off the eastern coast of the United States. It is still too early to tell if we will see effects here locally. Stay with us at ABC 27 for future updates on Chantal.
