MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) -- Tropical Storm Franklin reached the Yucatan Peninsula Tuesday, bringing soaking rain and gusty winds to popular coastal resort areas like Cancún and Cozumel. The storm will emerge over the Bay of Campeche, where some modest re-strengthening is possible, before making a second landfall in Mexican territory Thursday.
A rather weak disturbance several hundred miles east of the Lesser Antilles still has a long-range chance to become better developed in the west-central North Atlantic later this week. Many projections continue to show the possible system remaining over open waters, and offshore from the United States east coast. Several more days of analysis are necessary before gaining a better understanding of the evolution and future movement of this feature.
There are no other areas to highlight for possible tropical cyclone formation.
