MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) -- Hurricane Gonzalo is skimming the northern edge of Puerto Rico Tuesday afternoon as a strong Category 2 hurricane. A direct landfall on the island is not expected as Gonzalo is forecast to continue moving mostly to the northwest. Strengthening into a major hurricane within the next 36 hours, Gonzalo will begin to turn more to the north, over open waters, and then northeast by the end of the week. Bermuda may experience impacts from the hurricane based on this forecast path.
A second disturbance in the lower latitudes of the north Atlantic has minor chances to obtain better organization in the next few days.
Areas of moisture are linger in the far southern Caribbean, and in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico. Neither of these show immediate signs of intensifying, but will be monitored for any changes.
