It has been 10 years since a hurricane has impacted Florida. The last hurricane that hit Florida was Wilma back in 2005. Hurricane Wilma was the most intense tropical cyclone ever recorded in the Atlantic Basin and the western hemisphere until Patricia formed a few days ago. On October 15, 2005 it was a tropical depression and by October 19, 20005 it became a category 5 hurricane. By the time it reached Florida on October 24, 2005 it weakened to a category 3 hurricane.
