TALLAHASSEE (WTXL) -- Tropical storm Earl is currently near Honduras with maximum sustained winds at 60 mph. Later this evening Earl is expected to strengthen to a category 1 hurricane with winds reaching 75 mph as it becomes more organized. After Earl passes through the Yucatan it is expected to weaken but it could restrengthen depending on how far it moves into the southern Bay of Campeche.
Earl is continuing to move west at 14 mph. It's track remains virtually unchanged from the last update. There are watches and warning that are in affect; a hurricane warning is in effect for Puerto Costa Maya and along the Belize/Guatemala border. A tropical storm warning is in effect for Cabo Gracias a Dios which is west of Honduras.
