MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) -- A tropical disturbance in the open eastern Atlantic Ocean acquired enough organization late Tuesday night to be classified as the season's latest tropical depression.
Tropical Depression Six has peak winds of 35 mph. Its center is located over 700 miles west-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands.
The system is moving northwest at 14 mph.
The depression is moving deeper into the open waters of the North Atlantic through the next few days, with gradual strengthening possible in a marginally favorable environment for development. Upper-level winds are forecast to increase by late this week as the low moves northwestward. Additional sources of dry air nearby will also limit its rate of growth.
