We continue our active pattern in the tropics this morning with two named storms and a disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico.
Hurricane Humberto is currently located a few hundred miles northwest of the Cape Verde islands off the northwest coast of Africa. Winds are currently at 85 mph, with gusts reaching 105mph. The current forecast track takes it to the north for another 24 hours before it turns west and drifts out into the Atlantic Ocean, where it is expected to dissipate within the next few days. It will not be a threat to the United States.
Gabrielle was downgraded from a tropical storm to a tropical depression at the 5am advisory this morning, with winds currently at 35 mph. Gabrielle is expected to re-strengthen once again into a weak tropical storm before it accelerates quickly northward, possibly impacting Nova Scotia over the weekend. It is not a threat to the United States.
A tropical disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico is currently crossing over the Yucatan peninsula. It is forecast to enter the Bay of Campeche in the next few hours, where the NationalHurricaneCenter is giving it a 60% chance of development into a tropical depression or tropical storm in the next 48 hours. It is expected to make landfall in eastern Mexico by next week. Impacts are not expected for the United States.
