MIDWAY, Fl. (WTXL) -- The Tropics are still very active with a strengthening Hurricane Florence, and two disturbances behind Florence that will likely become tropical depressions or named storms in the coming days.
Florence, as of the 5:00am advisory, has maximum sustained winds at 115 mph. This makes the storm a Category 3 hurricane. The system will continue to push to the west/northwest through the weekend. The U.S. east coast should closely monitor the progress of Florence for the next few days.
Behind Florence, two disturbances have growing potential to become tropical cyclones...
One to the southwest of the Cape Verde Islands has a 90% chance of development in the next five days. It will continue to push to the west for the next several days toward the Lesser Antilles.
The system behind that has a 50% chance of organizing into a tropical depression in the next five days.
