MIDWAY, Fl. (WTXL) -- The tropics are staying rather active with a total of 5 tropical systems spanning from the Gulf of Mexico to Cape Verde.

First,  Tropical Depression Julia is sitting just east of southern South Carolina. Winds are weakening and are less than 30 mph for most areas. Much of the rain is on the east and northeast portion of the depression and away from the land. Coastal cities in Georgia and South Carolina close to the depression may experience some rain. Julia is expected to stay in it's general location until it dissipates completely.

Closer to Cape Verde is Tropical Depression Twelve. As of now, it has winds sustained near 35 mph and is moving to the west at 16 mph. Over the next day or two, it is not expected to change in it's intensity.

Tropical Storm Ian continues to churn in the open Atlantic, moving at a speed in a northeast direction at about 20 mph. This poses no threat to land as it will continue to weaken.

In the Gulf of Mexico, close to Texas, there is a large area of cloudiness associated with a low pressure. Conditions are not favorable for formation, but there is a 10% chance that it may become something more within the next five days.

Still over Africa, is a second disturbance. This has a 50% chance of developing in the next five days as it makes its move from land to water.
