MIDWAY, FL (WTXL) -- The tropics are looking active as we follow 3 tropical waves in the Atlantic and Hurricane Gert, which continues traveling away from the United States.
An area of organized showers located 500 miles east of the Lesser Antilles has been named Invest 91L. There is a 70% chance of tropical development over the next 5 days as it travels west into the Caribbean Sea.
Just behind it, 92L is located halfway between Africa and the Lesser Antilles. The storm is given a 50% chance of becoming something more as it travels west-northwest at 15 mph.
A tropical wave just off the coast of Africa is producing disorganized showers. The odds are 40% that this will gain tropical strength as it continues its westward track. It is still too soon to tell if these disturbances will affect the United States.
Hurricane Gert is well off the eastern coast of the U.S. It is continuing to travel into the north Atlantic and is expected to weaken. The storm is not a local threat for us.
