The tropics continue an active pattern this morning with tropical depression Humberto still in the northern Atlantic and a couple of tropical waves with some potential for development.

As of the 2am advisory this morning, Humberto was downgraded to a tropical depression with winds at 35 mph. Humberto is expected to weaken and lose tropical characteristics in the next day or so as it moves into the northern Atlantic Ocean, where it will dissipate.

The disturbance in the southern Gulf of Mexico emerged over the Bay of Campeche this morning, and is showing more signs of organization. It has been given a 70% chance of development into a tropical depression or tropical storm in the next 48 hours. Regardless of development, the system will curve to the north and bring heavy rains to the northeast coast of Mexico and southeast coast of Texas. Moisture from this disturbance will make its way into our area this weekend, giving the airmass a tropical feel and providing fuel for some heavy rain.

Another wave in the Atlantic Ocean is located just to the east of the Carolina/Florida coast. The wave is very weak and is in an area that is not conducive for development, but could organize into a subtropical low in the next few days. The National Hurricane Center has given it just a 20% chance of development.
