TALLAHASSEE (WTXL) -- As we approach September, we approach the peak of Hurricane Season. Yes, that means more activity is expected to flare up across the Tropical Atlantic. We are monitoring three main systems across the ocean including a disturbance over the Gulf of Mexico, an area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms entering the Caribbean and Hurricane Cristobal as it continues to track toward the North Atlantic. The main threat with Cristobal is the rip current risk across the east coast of the U.S. The other disturbances look rather weak and neither look to develop in the short term. The low pressure system in the Gulf of Mexico will likely cross into Texas for the weekend, ending its tropical development chances. The system across the Caribbean looks to have a more favorable shot as it moves into better conditions further west. It has a 20% chance of developing in the next 5 days. Looking into the future, the far-eastern Atlantic will be an area to look at as a few more waves of moisture begin to leave Africa next week.
