Although late September is usually a very active period for hurricane activity, the tropics right now remain unusually quiet. Strong upper level winds and dry high pressure are not allowing any waves coming off the northwest coast of Africa to develop, and dry air over the Gulf of Mexico will inhibit development there as well. Tropical development is not expected in the next 5 days.
