MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) -- Tropical Depression Ida continues to churn and battle harsh conditions in the open Atlantic. As of the 5pm advisory, Ida's winds are sustained around 35 mph. The storm is expected to slowly drift north, and then turn east west over the weekend. No longer is the storm expected to strengthen (at least for now) as the forecast track keeps the system at depression strength.
Meanwhile, a tropical wave east of the Yucatan Peninsula is prompting for some rainy concerns early next week locally. The moisture content will likely increase as this wave pushes north and whether or not it develops into a tropical depression/storm, the rain coverage will increase after Sunday. Model disagreement is very notable with the system and it has a 20% chance of tropical development within the next 5 days.
