TALLAHASSEE (WTXL) -- Invest 99L is south of the Florida Keys and is excepted to continue to move westward into the Gulf of Mexico tomorrow. Environmental conditions seem to be favorable for now so a tropical depression could form over the next few days. Midweek the system is expected to slowly move north and northeastward. Even if it doesn't form into a hurricane heavy rainfall could still impact the region locally.
Tropical depression 8 has sustained winds of 35 mph and is west of Bermuda. Little strengthening is expected however a tropical storm could form in the next day or two as it moves closer towards the Carolina's. A tropical storm watch may be issued for that area later today. After that time, models show the cyclone pushing offshore further into the Atlantic Basin.
Gaston is now a category 2 hurricane with sustained winds of 105 mph. The cyclone is expected to weaken and turn towards the east. This system will remain a 'fish-storm' and not have any impact locally or to any part of the United States.
