(WTXL) — As our First Alert weather team tells us, the biggest concern with Thursday's storms is the wind.

Tornadoes are possible but we're going to get some strong straight-line wind gusts too.

With the threat for severe weather in the forecast Thursday, it's important to know the risks. Thursday's biggest threat locally will be damaging wind gusts and tornadoes.

Even though tornadoes usually get the bulk of the attention, straight line winds are equally as dangerous.

They key difference is that straight line winds are not rotating and are only coming from one direction, while damaging winds from tornadoes are more chaotic in nature.

After storms pass through it may be difficult to assess the damage.

But at the end of the day, the most important thing is to take your safety serious and stay indoors if you're under a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning.
