MIDWAY, Fl. (WTXL) -- We reached record territory for afternoon highs on Tuesday and another day of reaching or surpassing a record high is possible. A warm air mass associated with high pressure is sitting overhead, allowing the temperatures to climb quickly and significantly in the afternoons. Wednesday afternoon highs are expected to near 90 degrees again as there is little change in the pattern compared to yesterday.
Morning lows through Friday are forecast to range in the lower to mid 60s. Thursday into Friday, the stubborn ridge of high pressure will start to weaken and push east, allowing a cold front to move through. Highs on Thursday will likely still reach the upper 80s. This cold front may increase rain coverage slightly for Friday (< 20% coverage).
Afterward, expect a big tumble in low temperatures for the weekend. A cooler air mass will move in by then, allowing morning lows to drop to 50 degrees and in some cases, below that. The sweaters and fall jackets will be handy very soon.
