TALLAHASSEE (WTXL) - The big weather story is the dangerous cold that is heading towards the Deep South. Temps this afternoon will fall slightly below average near 60° for a high but then tonight the real cold sets in. Hard freeze warnings and wind chill advisories are in place for tomorrow morning as temps tumble into the low to mid 20s with wind chill factors or how it actually feels, heading into the upper single digits and low teens. So frigid air indeed. An air mass like this comes along only about once a winter, so it's not something to take lightly. Cold shelters are open if you need a warm place to go tonight. The Arctic high pressure system scoots closer to the region Thursday afternoon which will drive the cold air with it. Don't expect highs to get out of the 40s Thursday afternoon. Temps in the 20s overnight into Friday morning again, but the winds will ease up courtesy of high pressure directly overhead so at least wind chills won't be a factor. Temps back into the mid 50s by the time the kids are getting home from school. Back to the freezing mark late Friday night into Saturday morning with Saturday afternoon temps back in the 50s and it looks like by Sunday we could see a few isolated showers with highs creeping towards 60°. Low 60s heading into next week.
