Severe weather instances have been minimal today, but the rain has been widespread and abundant. Many locations have picked up about an inch of rain, with a few heavier amounts in southwest Georgia and the western Big Bend. While evening weather is forecast to remain cloudy with lingering pockets of rain, severe weather chances are set to increase again Wednesday morning through afternoon. Developing storms in the Deep South will move eastward ahead of the main cold front that’s been slow to make progress toward us, but will finally get the needed push to force another line of heavy rain and strong storms from west to east through the region. Like today, strong wind gusts are possible, along with frequent lightning, downpours, and perhaps isolated tornadoes. Additional heavy rain will worsen any local flooding issues. A flash flood watch remains in effect for basically the western two-thirds of the region. Temperatures will rise to around 70°, then slowly climb toward the 80s depending on cloud cover. Clouds and showers will persist through the end of the week, but with the arrival of slightly cooler air, no severe weather is expected for Thursday and beyond.
