MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) -- Widespread scattered thunderstorm action was the main story today as the sea-breeze kicked into gear. Winds were out of the southwest, ideal for the sea-breeze mechanism. This mechanism will continue for tomorrow with isolated thunderstorms expected to form in the early afternoon. Highs will be in the mid 90s through Tuesday with rain coverage around 30% through Wednesday. This pattern will change through the work week as higher pressure shifts closer towards the Gulf Coast. As it does so, the winds associated with the high pressure system will have less of a southerly component and they will blow from a more westerly direction. This will mean less of a moisture transport from the Gulf and rain coverage from Thursday through to the weekend will be at or near 20%. Winds will also be blowing more warm air from the west so highs will continue to increase to the upper 90s! The lighter rain coverage is also due to a drier air mass influencing the weather. While the dryness will help dry the atmosphere, a bit of humidity will still be present which in turn will raise the heat index. Storms that form will be small in number and they can make the temps feel even more uncomfortable as they increase humidity values!
