TALLAHASSEE (WTXL) -- We're in the furnace around North Florida and South Georgia. Temps soared to near 100° in most places this afternoon, making this one of the hottest days of the year. Tonight, we'll stay very oppressive with lows only bottoming out in the mid 70s. Heading into the beginning of the work week, expect very similar conditions to what we saw on Sunday with afternoon highs rebounding into the upper 90s and heat index values--or how it feels outside, to be well into the triple digits. The rain threat remains rather limited but a storm or two could boil up by the coast line along a sea breeze front, and a low pressure system off the eastern seaboard could stream in a few storms for our eastern counties closer to the I-75 corridor. Tomorrow night, lows bottom out once again in the low to mid 70s. Pretty much a carbon copy day on Tuesday as well with a slight increase in our rain chances. Wednesday and beyond, temps slowly start to moderate, however our rain chances begin to increase once again. And by Independence Day, we're looking at a 50-50 shot for some storminess. More in depth details on the holiday weekend to come in future forecasts.
