The tropics are becoming more active as we ramp up into the peak of the season, September. For instance, Tropical Storm Erin is out in the Atlantic Basin moving westward. However, the outlook for Erin looks dismal as the ingredients for strengthening are nonexistent. Therefore, Erin looks to dissipate and become a Tropical Depression in the next day or so. In addition, another tropical wave has just come off the African coast and with that, may become the next system we focus our attention on as it is tries to develop. On the flip side, the outlook for this system looks difficult  as dry air is prevalent in that region currently, and could hamper any development. Bringing the focus closer to home, the system that has brought us the large amounts of rain and storms is actually centered in the Bay of Campeche and is trying to develop, but the National Hurricane Center has given it only a 10% of development during the last advisory. In any case, the system does not have to be a named storm to make an impact. For example, the system has brought multiple inches of rain to our region and has pushed tropical moisture northward which has fueled the storms we saw this afternoon.

As always, you can count on Storm Team 27 to bring you the latest in the tropics.
