TALLAHASSEE (WTXL) - An excessive heat warning is in effect for parts of the Western Big Bend and Panhandle through Saturday evening as we expect heat index values to near 115°. Elsewhere, a heat advisory continues through Saturday evening for heat index values nearing 110°. Either way you slice it, it's going to be oppressively hot these next 48 hours so stay hydrated and stay in air conditioning if possible. Check in on the kids and elderly--those who are most susceptible to the heat. There may be a few isolated scattered storms, similar but fewer in nature to what we saw on Thursday. If you get underneath one of these storms, because of the dangerous heat, the storms could quickly become strong to even severe with high winds, frequent lightning, large hail, and heavy downpours the main threats. But again, most of us will simply stay very hot with no storms. Lows tonight into Saturday bottom out in the mid 70s with some patchy fog possible. Pretty much a carbon copy day on Saturday before rain chances increase late into the weekend. That'll knock temps back into the mid 90s for highs, making it a little more bearable for this time of year. Expect that same trend to continue through the forecast period.
