MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) -- From the Storm Team Weather Center ...

Hurricane Matthew is making its closest approach to the Northeast Florida coast this evening, with the eye just a few dozen miles offshore from Duval County.  It has spread considerable cloudiness over the eastern half of the viewing region, leading to occasional showers and a noticeable breeze.  Winds will start to subside tonight through Saturday and the sky will become clearer by Saturday morning.  Lows will stay above average, near 70°.  With sunshine, drier air, and an ongoing north to northwest wind, temperatures will climb to the lower 90s before a cold front arrives late at night.  It will bring readings back to near-average levels for Sunday and most of the next several days to follow.

The leftovers of the weakening Matthew by this time are forecast to meander in the western Atlantic, and a possible return of its remnants into parts of the southern peninsula of Florida around the middle of next week.  It will not be anywhere near as intense as the storm is now.
