MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) -- Connie in McAlpin shared pictures of wavy cloud formations Friday, shown within this article, and asked:
Question: What type of clouds are these?
Answer: These appear to be a form of low- and mid-level cloud cover classified as "altostratus undulatus." These are typically found in the lower 7,500 feet of the atmosphere, and are caused by variable gravitational and wind forces on the moisture droplets that compose the cloud. Enhanced upward motion within these "waves" can create more condensation of the moisture, helping to make the motion of this flow more obvious in the cloud structure.
