MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) -- Tropical Storm Bertha has weakened considerably as it interacted with the island nations Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. It may not survive as the center of circulation continues to get disrupted by the land. Regardless, it is forecast to move to the northwest and miss the mainland U.S. by taking a sharp turn towards the northeast into the Northern Atlantic by midweek. If it does remain organized after it emerges out over open waters in the northern Caribbean, the storm might be able to tap into the warm waters across the western Atlantic and become a low-end hurricane, though that looks unlikely. A tropical wave ahead of Bertha will help to influence our rain chances here at home, but it will unlikely develop into a depression. Nonetheless, it will play a part in our forecast so we will continue to monitor it as it interacts with Bertha. No other development across the Atlantic is expected.
