MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) -- The tropics are not very active due to dry air impeding thunderstorm development of a wave southwest of the Cape Verde Islands. It is not expected to develop in this harsh environment. As new waves move off the west African coast, the storms they produce do not last for very long and the systems cannot maintain intensity because of all the dry African air suffocating them. Nonetheless, we are nearing the climatological peak of the Atlantic Hurricane Season, so more waves will continue to form.
