TALLAHASSEE (WTXL) -- Tropical storm Fiona currently has 40 mph sustained winds and is moving west-northwest at 14 mph. Fiona will encounter unfavorable conditions including strong wind shear and dry air so a gradual weakening trend is expected, and it should become a tropical depression by tonight or early Sunday morning. The forecast track will remain unchanged over the next few days as a mid level ridge over the central Atlantic will keep pushing Fiona towards the west-northwest.

A broad area of low pressure associated with a tropical wave between the west coast of Africa and the Lesser Antilles has a 60% chance of cyclonic formation over the next 5 days. Right now the system is still disorganized and development is expected to be slow before it moves into more favorable conditions by midweek. It will continue to move west at 15-20 mph.

A tropical wave near the coast of Africa has a 70% chance of cyclonic formation over the next 5 days. This wave will push offshore overnight and environmental conditions appear conducive for gradual development. It will likely become a tropical depression by midweek as it moves towards the west-northwest.
