Midway, Fla. (WTXL) -- While the 2014 Atlantic & East Pacific Hurricane Season's have officially ended, the story is different for the Western Pacific. In a basin that is warmer year-round (hence the year-long typhoon season for them), folks who live in the Western Pacific must always be on the lookout for tropical systems.

Typhoon Hagupit is a system that is developing in the West Pacific and is forecast to become the equivalent of a major hurricane as it approaches the Philippines. As of now, it is too far out to tell if a direct impact to the nation is certain, but it isn't needed, as the nation has dealt with very strong storms in recent memory (most remember Haiyan/Yolanda from November 2013).

The Japan Meteorological Society continues to monitor the system as it continues to push west.
