Storm Team Tuesday evening forecast (01/21/2014)

Posted

The newest cold front is now making its way to the east and causing an increase in wind speeds and an eventual decrease in temperatures, as the northwest breeze carries the latest source of Arctic air into the Southeast.  Winds are not likely to diminish overnight, so gusts above 25 mph combined with overnight lows in the upper 20s to around 30° will create wind-chill values in the teens by sunrise.  A wind chill advisory will be in effect as a result.  Don’t expect a huge temp recovery Wednesday afternoon despite full sunshine; highs will only reach the mid 40s to near 50°.  There will be less wind tomorrow afternoon as the cold high-pressure system moves overhead by later in the day.  That will set up potential hard-freeze conditions for Thursday morning, as lows may be in the low and mid 20s for several hours.  There will be another big cold snap late in the week, and perhaps another one set for early next week.
