The current high-pressure system located over the Southeast has forced another batch of chilly air upon the region, just in time for your Christmas preparations. It’ll be a perfect night for a lit fireplace and hot apple cider as the sky will be clear overnight and temperatures falling to the lower 30s by sunrise. A freeze warning will be in effect for most counties early Christmas morning. Gradual warming will occur after dawn with a good deal of sunshine, but easterly winds may cast extra clouds into the area, blocking the sun and times and perhaps slowing down the warming trend. Forecast highs Wednesday will be capped in the upper 50s and lower 60s. Eastern clouds plus some modest upper disturbances riding over the northern Gulf may be enough to trigger isolated showers with partly sunny skies Thursday and Friday. Temperatures will remain near seasonably cool levels.
