The meandering stationary front over the Gulf coast region, combined with swift upper-level winds and ample surface moisture, are driving the periodic shower and storm action we’ve experienced today. Rain opportunities are unlikely to totally subside overnight, as the front lingers and remains as a focus for new shower development. We’ll tap into a rich source of moisture straight from the tropics Friday, surging northward from the Caribbean and southern Gulf, which will fuel the chances for more widespread rain which may accumulate to a few inches tomorrow through the weekend. The moisture source and the associated low-pressure system have limited chances for forming into a tropical depression or tropical storm … but regardless of development, heavy rain is a real possibility for the region in the next 72 hours. Lows tonight will fall into the low and mid 70s … then, with cloudiness and rain Friday, most highs should stay in the 80s and avoid the 90° mark.
