TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- The Florida Division of Emergency Management is asking for the help of creative young artists to raise the knowledge and awareness of severe weather in our region.

The 13th Annual Kids Severe Weather Awareness Poster Contest is underway.  Children in Kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to create a poster, displaying a message about an element of severe weather and how viewers of the poster can learn to be prepared and protected.  Several topics of severe weather can be covered in the picture, from thunderstorms to hurricanes to wildfires and more.

Poster drawings are due by Feb. 1 and can be sent to the Capital Areas Chapter of the American Red Cross on Easterwood Drive for review.  Winning posters will then be selected and then placed on display during the state's Severe Weather Week starting Feb. 24.

Interested students and classes can access www.floridadisaster.org/SWAW for more information and details.
