TALLAHASSEE (WTXL) - With temps climbing into the upper 90s Wednesday afternoon, it's appropriate that June 8th is "National Child Vehicular Heatstroke Prevention Day."
Leaving a child in a car after it's turned off even for a few minutes is dangerous. With outdoor temps of 95°, the inside of a turned-off car can reach 114° in just 10 min and approach 125° in 20 minutes!
Since 1998, nearly 630 children have been killed in hot cars. The simple acronym "ACT" can prevent a tragedy.
Always check the backseat before leaving your vehicle.
Create reminders. Place your brief case or your phone next to the child safety seat. That way it'll be a helpful reminder before heading indoors.
Take action. If you see a child alone in a turned off car, call the police.
