The tropics are beginning to heat up this morning after a fairly quiet period over the past couple of weeks. Tropical Depression 11 has formed in the central Atlantic Ocean with winds currently at 35 mph. It is nearly stationary right now, and is expected to slowly drift northwestward over the next few days. Significant impacts to land are not expected.

A new tropical disturbance has also formed in the Caribbean and is slowly drifting to the northwest. The National Hurricane Center has given it a 30% chance of development into a tropical depression or tropical storm in the next 5 days. Regardless of development, the system is expected to move into the Gulf of Mexico and provide ample tropical moisture to the Gulf coast states throughout the weekend.
