MIDWAY, Fl. (WTXL) -- A dying tropical depression, a strengthening tropical storm, and a persistent tropical disturbance near the Caribbean highlight this check of the Tropics.
Starting with Fiona, the tropical depression is expected to transition into a remnant low pressure system by tomorrow, moving to the west of Bermuda.
Our newest tropical storm, Gaston, has quickly intensified after being deemed a depression yesterday afternoon. It is expected to become our next hurricane by tomorrow. Similarly to Fiona, the system will likely stay over the open Atlantic as it pushes to the northwest.
Last but not least, an open tropical wave is re-intensifying near the eastern Caribbean (NE of the Lesser Antilles). This system has a 60% chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next two days. Model guidance consistently hints at this storm pushing closer to the Bahamas and nearing the southeast U.S. coast. If this system becomes a tropical storm, its name would be Hermine.
