MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) --  Tropical Storm Don formed late Monday afternoon a few hundred miles east of the southern edge of the Lesser Antilles chain of islands.  The storm has winds of 40 mph and is moving west at 17 mph.

Don will skim the northernmost South American coastline while encountering drier atmospheric conditions and increasing upper-level winds in the southern Caribbean.  These features will likely lead to the storm's dissipation within the next three days.

A tropical disturbance farther east from Don has also struggled with dry air on its northern edge, limiting development in the meantime.

There are no other active systems in the Atlantic basin, including the Gulf of Mexico.
