MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) -- Organized disturbances are not expected in the tropical Atlantic basin over the next several days.
The Atlantic hurricane season ends today (Nov. 30) featuring a near-average number of named tropical systems (11), four hurricanes, and two major hurricanes. The United States also escaped the season without a hurricane landfall.
Tropical Storm Ana impacted the Carolinas as a pre-season tropical storm, and Tropical Storm Bill reached the central Texas coastline in mid-June. Most Atlantic-borne systems suffered the effects of high upper-level winds (wind shear), which inhibited their strength, longevity, and chances for landfall in the Gulf region in general.
Unless tropical systems generate between Dec. 1 and May 31, daily "Tropics checks" will be on hiatus from the Hurricane Center section of wtxl.tv for the winter and spring season.
