JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (WTXL) — Mandatory evacuations in Jacksonville will begin Monday morning as Hurricane Dorian pounds the Bahamas and threatens Florida's east coast.

Mayor of Jacksonville says mandatory evacuations starting at 8 a.m. Monday morning for zones A and B, which effects islands that include Jacksonville beaches.

A local state of emergency will go into effect Monday. Parts of Duval, St Johns and Nassau County are under mandatory evacuation.

Officials say Jacksonville beaches will close Sunday night as they are expecting significant rip currents.

Bridges will close when sustained winds reach 40mph. Shelters will open at 10am Monday morning.

There is no curfew for Jacksonville at this time.
