TALLAHASSEE (WTXL) - Tropical depression Ida currently had 35 mph sustained winds and is moving north-northwest at 5 mph. Strong wind shear and dry air will continue to weaken Ida. It could move into more favorable conditions midweek but there isn't expected to be much of the system left after Saturday. It is expected to become a subtropical low by the end of the weekend.
An area of low pressure near the Yucatan peninsula has a 20% chance of cyclonic formation over the next 5 days. Environmental conditions are slightly favorable for development. Even if this doesn't form into a tropical cyclone it will still bring a lot of heavy rain to the region at the start of next work week.
