MIDWAY, FL (WTXL) -- Hurricane Matthew is now a category 4 hurricane, making it the strongest Atlantic hurricane we've seen this season. Winds are sustained at 140 mph with a west southwest movement of 9 mph. This hurricane is forecast to maintain its strength for another 24 hours or so before weakening some. It is currently sitting about 100 miles north of Columbia in the Caribbean Sea.
Matthew is still expected to turn to the north from its current western track later this the weekend. After passing Cuba and Haiti, the weakening will continue as it moves over the Bahamas and just misses Miami.
