TALLAHASSEE (WTXL) - It’s severe weather week in Florida and Georgia. February typically kicks off severe weather season in the Deep South. To raise awareness both states will hold tornado drills Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service says the most important things to know if a tornado is about to hit is “get in, get down, and cover up.”
During a tornado or severe thunderstorm warning, make sure you have at least 3 ways to get weather information. Weather radios, smart phone apps and local news outlets are all great ways to learn about imminent weather threats. Make sure you have a weather safety plan in place and make sure you know the differences between watches and warnings.
A watch means that severe weather is possible while a warning means severe weather is threatening your community right now.
