TALLAHASSEE (WTXL) - The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch in effect through Thursday morning for portions of the Florida panhandle and southwest Georgia.

A band of heavy rain is moving eastward over the next 24 hours, so conditions could be favorable for flash flooding. An additional 1-2" of rain is expected across most of the watch area however, up to 4" are possible in hot spots.

This area has already been inundated with rain since the week of Christmas. This has wreaked havoc on area waterways including the Flint River, Chattahoochee River & Apalachicola River.

Moderate flooding is expected for most of these rivers through this weekend.
