WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. — A Wakulla County man who's been on the run for nearly a year after assaulting a pregnant woman while holding her captive has been arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service.
Dalton McClure, 25, was arrested by the United States Marshals Service (USMS) on Wednesday.
On Sept. 16, 2018, a woman, who was eight months pregnant, contacted the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office and reported being battered by McClure the previous evening.
When being interviewed by deputies, the victim stated she and McClure had a verbal disagreement before he left her house. The victim said that after she believed McClure had left the area, she walked outside and that's when McClure attacked her, grabbed her arms, and drug her into the bedroom where he kept her for two hours.
The victim stated that every time she tried to leave, he hit her in the face/head area. She stated he also burned her with a cigarette, busted her lip, and took her cellphone, so she could not call WCSO.
She told deputies that after about two hours, McClure ended the attack, returned her phone and allowed her to leave the room.
As part of the follow-up investigation, detectives obtained text messages between the victim and McClure.
One of the texts reportedly from McClure read in part, “I hit you cause at the time I wanted too. I wanted to hurt you.” Other portions of the texts read, “Deal with that. cause I hit people I hate."
Two days later, investigators called McClure who answered, but declined to discuss the matter. After, WCOS says McClure fled the State of Florida.
On Wednesday, the USMS Western District of Texas Lone Star Fugitive Task Force arrested McClure in Bell County, Texas where he was booked into the Bell County Jail. Following extradition procedures, he will be returned to Wakulla County to face charges for aggravated battery, false imprisonment, and obstructing justice.
